Day 1: Arusha (1400m) – Miriakamba Hut (2500m)
Early in the morning we drive from Arusha to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. After registration at the gate we start our trekking. An armed ranger joins us on our trekking to the top of Mount Meru since there is a lot of wildlife, especially on the slower slopes. You can spot zebras, monkeys, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and many more along the way. As we continue our trekking we pass the Ngarenanyuki River and a wonderful waterfall at the foot of Mount Meru. Upon arrival at Miriakamba Hut, our chef prepares a hot dinner and washing water. Enjoy the beautiful sunset and overnight.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut (2500m) – Saddle hut (3500m)
After breakfast, we start climbing up the steep trail to the saddle. There is a big chance to see various wildlife along the way. Enjoy the great views of the Meru Crater and the spectacular Ash Cone in the middle. After lunch at the Saddle Hut we can make a short climb of one hour to the peak of Little Mount Meru (3820m/12,532ft) to further acclimate. At the peak the views of the summit and the cliffs of the crater’s wall are imposing. In the evening we go early to bed after dinner, to be well rested for the midnight climb to the top.
Day 3: Saddle hut (3500m) – summit (4566m) – Saddle hut (3500m)
Rise up in the middle of the night to climb a steep trail to Rhino Point (3800m) and on to Cobra Point (4350m). The final hour of the climb is along a rocky ridge between de inner cliffs and outside wall of the crater. We reach the summit before sunrise, to witness the spectacular Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. After a short break we return to Saddle Hut to eat and relax the rest of the day. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.
Day 4: Saddle Hut (3500m) – Momella Gate- Arusha (1400m)
Today we trek down to the crater floor on to Momella Gate, via Miriakamba Hut. Your driver will be waiting to take you back to Arusha/Moshi.
