Tarangire National Park is a true paradise for elephant and bird lovers. It is home to the largest population of elephants in East Africa and more than 550 bird species. Especially during the dry season, animals flock around the Tarangire River, which is the only source of water in the area. The landscape is incredible diverse and beautiful baobab trees scatter the park. Tarangire National Park still has an authentic rawness and is as ‘wild’ as it gets in the northern circuit.

Baobab trees

Tarangire is an uncrowded quiet park for those who like to experience an authentic safari atmosphere. The blue sky with fluffy clouds forms a stunning backdrop to the green hills scattered with grand baobab trees. It looks like these trees are planted upside down with their roots in the air. This park stands out from any other park in the Northern Circuit. It’s very green and lush due to the permanent water of the Tarangire River running through the park.

Elephant haven

Tarangire National Park is a sanctuary for elephant lovers. The park boasts the largest population elephants in East Africa, during the dry season, with herds up to 300. Almost everywhere you lay your eyes on, you can see these impressive mammals. They often gather around the Tarangire River with the rest of the wildlife, drinking and bathing. Especially during the dry season the park is choked with wildlife and has a remarkable concentration of big cats.

Silale Swamp

The lively Silale swamp is one of the highlands of Tarangire. This beautiful green wetland is great for bird-watching and home to one of the largest selections of breeding birds anywhere in the world. You can spot in Tarangire more than 550 bird species, including the osprey, marabou, orange-bellied parrots, lovebirds, white pelican, vultures and the largest flying bird, the Kori Bustard. The swamps is also the place to see lots of leopards and lions.
