DAY 1: Chwaka Bay

Upon arrival at Zanzibar airport, your driver will meet you at the exit of the arrivals area, to transfer you to Matemwe Village at the east coast. The next 3 days you overnight at Matemwe Lodge, just a few minutes’ walk to the beach. Matemwe Lodge is located on a cliff edge, surrounded by beautiful beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Furthermore this luxury beachfront lodge has a laid-back atmosphere and offers everything for you to unwind, from a beach bar, pool and spa to snorkelling or deep sea fishing tours. Each of the 12 chalets overlook the Indian Ocean. Spend the next few days on this tropical island at leisure.

DAY 2: Chwaka Bay

Wake up in paradise. Matemwe beach is one of the best beaches in Zanzibar that stretches for miles along the beautiful lagoon. You can spend the entire day sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling or take a walk along the beach while enjoying sightings of fishing boats sailing the Indian Ocean. You can also explore the surroundings and stroll through Matemwe Village. The atmosphere is relaxed and there is no sense or rush. The friendly inhabitants sit outside their homes and chat away, children playing on the street. Although more tourists visited this village in the last years, it still has maintained its authenticity.

DAY 3: Chwaka Bay

Enjoy you last day at one of the world’s most beautiful beaches or explore the rich coral reefs in the Indian Ocean. Matemwe Lodge lies opposite to Mnemba Atoll, a spectacular diving and snorkelling spot. Set off to this island on a traditional dhow boat. Zanzibar offers a wealth of activities, such as dolphin or whale watching tours, kayaking, windsurfing, big game fishing or a jungle walk in the Jozani Forest. Spend the day at leisure, exactly the way you like.

DAY 4: Chwaka Bay – Stone Town

After breakfast, we drive to Stone Town. En route we visit a plantation on the island to learn why spices are essential to Zanzibar’s history and economy and how they are grown and used. We continue our drive to Stone Town where we check in at the hotel. In the afternoon we explore the cultural and historical centre of the island. Stone Town is a cultural melting pot with a mix of African, Arabic, Indian and European cultures. During a guided walking tour you can wander through the labyrinth of small streets and see churches, markets, restaurants and souvenir shops. Soak up the atmosphere of this magical town and visit the famous House of Wonders, Old Fort, Slave Market, Persian Baths and Sultan’s Palace. At the end of the afternoon we return to Zanzibar Palace Hotel, where you stay for the next two nights. It is a lovely hotel, in the heart of Stone Town, with a mix of Arabian and Indian architecture.

DAY 5: Stone Town

A day at leisure to explore the vibrant streets of Stone Town on your own and do some shopping. Immerse yourself in the local life at Darajani or Forodhani food markets. Taste all kind of fresh fish and learn about the culinary traditions of the Zanzibari. Especially the open-air park Forodhani is a bustling place in the evening with great sightings of the Indian Ocean. If you fancy a good cup of coffee, head to Zanzibar Coffee House, or if you want to watch spectacular 360-degree rooftop views of Stone Town visit Emerson Spice Rooftop Teahouse. This charming town offers great restaurants, art galleries and gift shops. The colourfully dressed women, children running through the narrow alleys, men playing traditional mancala board games on the street, the smell of spices and food, the morning calls for prayer…. this place makes your senses dazzle.

DAY 6: Departure

Today your driver transfers you to Zanzibar airport for your departure flight home. It is possible to stay longer at Zanzibar or extend your stay with a safari or another tropical island. Just contact us for more information.
