Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and beyond: the countries of an East Africa safari, compared.
Planning an East Africa safari across borders
An East Africa safari usually starts in Tanzania, which has the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and Kilimanjaro. From there, short flights reach Rwanda and Uganda for gorilla trekking, and Kenya for the Maasai Mara on the other side of the migration.
Combining countries adds flights and border formalities, so we usually suggest one country plus one extension. For instance, a week in Tanzania followed by three days with gorillas in Rwanda works well. Gorilla permits are issued by the Rwanda Development Board and Uganda Wildlife Authority, and we book them for you. Browse the trips or ask us in the trip planner.
