What to know before you go

What a mid-range Tanzania safari feels like

Mid-range is where most of our guests travel: comfortable lodges and permanent tented camps with private bathrooms, good food and a pool at some stops. You travel in a private vehicle with your own guide, with full-day game drives and the freedom to stop wherever you like.

  2. Two lionesses walking side by side

    Lodges and camps

Mid-range lodges are often just outside the park gates, which keeps costs reasonable, while tented camps inside the Serengeti put you close to the wildlife at dawn. We mix the two so you get the best location where it matters most.

  3. Two lion cubs playing on a sandy track in the savannah

    Who it suits

Couples, families and first-time visitors who want comfort without paying luxury prices. Seven to ten days, perhaps with a few nights on Zanzibar, is the most popular length.

Questions about Mid-Range

Mid-Range: how many days do I need?

Our Mid-Range trips run from 7 to 18 days, and most guests choose about 10. Fewer days mean more time on the road; more days let you slow down and stay longer where the animals are.

Mid-Range: when is the best time to go?

The best time is June to October, and January to February. Every month has something, though, so read our guide to the best time to visit Tanzania before you choose your dates.

Mid-Range: how much does it cost?

The price depends on the season, the number of people and the lodges you choose. We send a clear, all-inclusive proposal for your dates within 24 hours, and our guide to the cost of a Tanzania safari explains the main costs.

Mid-Range: can I add Zanzibar or Kilimanjaro?

Yes. Zanzibar is about an hour's flight from Arusha or the Serengeti, and Kilimanjaro is an hour's drive from Arusha. See our Zanzibar holidays and Kilimanjaro routes.

Mid-Range: is the trip private?

Yes. Every trip we run is private, with your own vehicle and guide, and we adapt the route, the lodges and the pace to you. Start with the trip planner or contact us.

Shall we plan your trip?

Tell us your dates and what you would like to see. A specialist in Arusha sends a route and a clear proposal within 24 hours.
