Jorodom Route
The main route up Hanang, from Jorodom Gate above the town of Katesh on the southern side of the mountain.
About the route
The Jorodom route is the standard way up Mount Hanang. It starts from Jorodom Gate on the edge of Katesh and climbs the southern slopes through farmland, forest and open grassland to the summit ridge.
The climb is steady rather than technical, but it gains around 1,500 m, so a good level of fitness helps. Most climbers go up and down in a long day; with two days you camp on the mountain and reach the summit early the next morning, when the views are clearest.
Highlights
- Quiet trail with few other walkers
- Forest and grassland on an extinct volcano
- Views over Lake Basotu and the Rift Valley
